Binaural Noise Cue Preservation in a Binaural Noise Reduction System With a Remote Microphone Signal

Abstract: A general binaural noise reduction system is considered that employs the multi-channel Wiener filter with partial noise estimation (MWF⌘) allowing for an explicit trade-off between noise reduction and binaural noise cue preservation. In this paper, it is assumed that along with the general binaural system, a remote microphone signal with a high input signalto-noise ratio (SNR) is available for inclusion in the MWF⌘. The use of this remote microphone signal with a high input SNR allows for a simultaneous increa… Show more

“…To improve the performance of (binaural) algorithms in terms of noise reduction and source localization accuracy, it has been proposed to use an external microphone in conjunction with the head-mounted microphones [5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. For a diffuse noise field, an efficient RTF vector estimation method has been proposed in [11], This work was funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) -Project ID 352015383 (SFB 1330 B2) and Project ID 390895286 (EXC 2177/1).…”

“…In fact, existing systems that incorporate an external microphone with a communication link have already proven to provide benefits to HA and CI users [4][5][6][7]. More recently, in the context of an MVDR beamformer, NR strategies for using the external microphone signal have been proposed in [8][9][10]. In this paper, we focus on the extension of an MVDR beamformer that uses an external microphone signal to its GSC counterpart.…”
