Binge eating disorder in men. A review of the relevant variables in the literature

Abstract: Background. Although binge eating disorder (BED) formally appeared in the fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV), after nearly two decades of research, it is still considered understudied in men. “…Considerando que la conformación del grupo fue únicamente de mujeres, podemos decir, que de acuerdo a la literatura, las mujeres tienen más probabilidades de pedir ayuda para un trastorno alimentario a pesar de que existen tasas similares de TpA por sexo (Keski-Rahkonen, 2021). Además, se ha observado que en los hombres existe menor conciencia de las psicopatologías alimentarias y mayor reticencia a buscar tratamiento porque posiblemente lo consideren "femenino" (Velázquez López et al, 2018).
