Bio-Nanohybrid Gelatin/Quantum Dots for Cellular Imaging and Biosensing Applications

Abstract: The bio-nanohybrid gelatin protein/cadmium sulfide (Gel/CdS) quantum dots (QDs) have been designed via a facile one-pot strategy. The amino acids group of gelatin chelate Cd2+ and grow CdS QDs without any agglomeration. The 1H NMR spectra indicate that during the above process there are no alterations of the gelatin protein structure conformation and chemical functionalities. The prepared Gel/CdS QDs were characterized and their potential as a system for cellular imaging and the electrochemical sensor for hydr… Show more

“…Initially, Mn-doped ZnS QDs/gelatin solution was obtained by adding the QDs-G gel beads (1.0 g) to distilled water (50 mL, 40 °C) with stirring for 20 min. Next, Cu 2 + solutions of different volumes were added to the Mn-doped ZnS QDs/gelatin solution to achieve different concentrations (10,20,30,40,50,60,70,80,90, and 100 μM). After mixing for 30 s, the PL spectra of the above solution were recorded by using a fluorescence spectrophotometer.…”

“…For example, Samal et al prepared CdS QDs/gelatin composites using a simple one-pot method for cell labeling and electrochemical sensors. [20] Kang et al synthesized gelatin-coated AgInS 2 /ZnS core/shell QDs for the fabrication of light-emitting diodes. [21] In addition, gelatin has various functional groups such as hydroxyls (À OH), carboxyls (À COOH), and amines (À NH 2 ), which can be used as stabilizing agents of QDs.…”

“…Quantum dots have been employed as fluorescent labels to create traceable NP because of its tuneable physicochemical properties, strong photostability, broad absorption spectrum, and relatively narrow emission bands. For example, as the processes of angiogenesis and vascular remodelling, as well as the infiltration of macrophage cells into artery tissues, have all been linked to disease, quantum dots have been proposed to monitor these phenomena [ 150 ].…”
