In boar spermatozoa, capacitation is dependent upon calcium and bicarbonate, but does not appear to require albumin, possibly due to the remarkably low cholesterol/phospholipid ratio of boar spermatozoon (Althouse, ; Tardif, Dubé, & Bailey, ).
