Biocompatibility and Effectiveness of a Novel, Organic Olive Oil-Based Denture Adhesive: A Multicenter Randomized and Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial

Abstract: To assess the clinical efficacy of a novel, organic olive oil-based denture adhesive and its effect on Candida albicans growth in maxillary edentulous individuals wearing complete dentures, individuals were selected from two dental schools in Portugal and Spain. “…Our findings indicated no significant difference in the ease of cleaning between Corega and Olivafix, which is consistent with results previously observed by Polychronakis [30]. However, Olivafix was found to be easily solubilized by denture cleansers due to its oil-based components which were also found to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties and hence Olivafix can inhibit growth of microorganisms even if adhesive remnants were not completely removed, making Olivafix another attractive option for denture wearers [ 32 ].…”

Tratam-se de produtos comercialmente disponíveis para fixar uma prótese removível à mucosa oral, com o intuito de aprimorar a retenção e a estabilidade e evitar que o alimento fique retido sob a prótese (SHU et al, 2021).…”
