Biocompatibility, Bioactivity and Gene Expression Analysis of SHEDS Cultured in Various Calcium Silicate Based Cements: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of in Vitro Studies

Abstract: Aim: To assess the biocompatibility, bioactivity and gene expression analysis of SHEDs incubated in various Calcium Silicate Based Cements. Study design: Following PRISMA statement, a search was carried out in the electronic databases–PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Google Scholar, JSTOR, and DOAJ from January 2000 to 31 May 2021. In vitro trials examining the response of SHEDs to the treatment with CSCs were eligible. Results: 10 trials were included after the selection process. These trials involved the assessment o… Show more

“…In our systematic electronic search, we found four systematic reviews similar to our review. Although these reviews have analyzed similar categories of outcomes to our review, they have only focused on a very small group of hCSCs, have included only a certain type of stem cell, or had chosen only direct contact [ 112 , 114 , 117 , 118 ]. On the contrary, these limitations were not considered in our systematic review, enabling us to compare and discuss commercially available hCSCs more comprehensively.…”

“…Besides, studies showed that the replacement of bismuth oxide with zirconium oxide (as a radiopacifier alternative) can decrease discoloration. In the absence of blood, ENDOCEM Zr and RetroMTA (which contain zirconium oxide) demonstrated lower tooth discoloration than ProRoot MTA and MTA Angelus (which encompass bismuth oxide) [ 116 118 ]. In the presence of blood, however, no considerable difference was observed among ProRoot MTA, Biodentine, OrthoMTA, and ERRM [ 119 ].…”
