Biocompatible Hollow Polydopamine Nanoparticles Loaded Ionic Liquid Enhanced Tumor Microwave Thermal Ablation in Vivo

Abstract: Tumor microwave thermal therapy (MWTT) has attracted more attention because of the minimal damage to body function, convenient manipulation and low complications. Herein, a novel polydopamine (PDA) nanoparticle loading ionic liquids (ILs/PDA) as microwave susceptible agent is introduced for enhancing the selectivity and targeting of MWTT. ILs/PDA nanocomposites have an excellent microwave heating efficiency under an ultralow microwave power irradiation. Encouraging antitumor effect was observed when tumor bear… Show more

“…Moreover, the resulting PDA structure surface was modified with different moieties or heat-resistant cargo (previously immersed into the template NPs) and loaded into the hollow PDA NPs [108]. Meng and co-workers also produced PDA capsules using a sacrificial template of SiO 2 colloidal NPs [109]. The researchers loaded the capsules with ionic liquids and used them for microwave thermal therapy to destroy tumour tissue [109].…”

“…Meng and co-workers also produced PDA capsules using a sacrificial template of SiO 2 colloidal NPs [109]. The researchers loaded the capsules with ionic liquids and used them for microwave thermal therapy to destroy tumour tissue [109]. Upon intravenous injection with the subsequent treatment of a single dose of microwave irradiation, encouraging antitumour effects in mice were observed ( Figure 6) [109].…”

“…Ionic liquid, as the most well-known microwave heating material, has good microwave heating effect through the valid conversion from electromagnetic energy to thermal energy in limited space owing to its ionic properties and excellent polarizability. [154,155] However, traditional loading materials usually have the risk of leaking them out and then cause toxicity to human body, which often limits their applications. [156] In general, organic polymer sensitizers have good biocompatibility, but the stability and drug loading are relatively low.…”
