Biodegradation of Buprofezin by Rhodococcus sp. Strain YL-1 Isolated from Rice Field Soil

Abstract: A buprofezin-degrading bacterium, YL-1, was isolated from rice field soil. YL-1 was identified as Rhodococcus sp. on the basis of the comparative analysis of 16S rDNA sequences. The strain could use buprofezin as the sole source of carbon and nitrogen for growth and was able to degrade 92.4% of 50 mg L(-1) buprofezin within 48 h in liquid culture. During the degradation of buprofezin, four possible metabolites, 2-tert-butylimino-3-isopropyl-1,3,5-thiadiazinan-4-one, N-tert-butyl-thioformimidic acid formylamino… Show more

“…Rice eld soil residing Rhodococcus sp. Strain YL-1, has capability of biodegrading buprofezin into four metabolites: 2 isothiocyanato-2-methyl-propane, 2 tertbutylimino-3-isopropyl-1, 3,5-thiadiazinan-4-one N-tert-butyl thioformimidic acid formylaminomethyl ester, and 2-isothiocyanato-propane, (Li et al,2012).…”

“…Microorganism-based bioremediation is the most promising and efficient strategy for removal of environmental pollutants compared to the conventional physicochemical methods such as photodecomposition, fenton degradation, ozonation, and adsorption, which are known for high operating cost and low efficiency. There is a growing body of evidence that xenobiotic compounds can be successfully eliminated by diverse microorganisms belonging to different taxonomic groups. Recently, Cycoń et al reported that Bacillus sp. TDS-2 isolated from sandy soil successfully removed thiophanate-methyl (100 mg kg –1 ) from soils within 24 days.…”

“…Previous work showed that the inoculation of soil with strain YL-1 significantly accelerated the degradation of buprofezin in the soil (21), implying the potential use of this strain in bioremediation. However, the buprofezin-degrading phenotype of strain YL-1 is unstable when it grows in nutrient-rich medium.…”

“…strain DFS35-4 (20) were able to cometabolize buprofezin, while Rhodococcus sp. strain YL-1 (21) and Bacillus sp. strain BF5 (22) could use buprofezin as their sole sources of carbon and energy for growth.…”
