“…Epicaridium and cryptoniscus larvae are known as freeswimming stages but microniscus larvae, the second developmental stage, are found feeding on hemolymph while attached on free-living copepods that serve as intermediate hosts (e.g., Williams & Boyko 2012;McDermott et al 2020). Currently, 637 species in 169 genera of bopyrids, 8 species in 1 genus of Ionidae, and 36 species in 16 genera of entoniscids are recoginized (Boyko et al 2008 onwards;Boxshall & Hayes 2019). In this paper, two bopyroids are reported infesting two species of common shore crabs in the intertidal zone of the Ryukyu Islands, Japan: Kepon grapsi (Nobili, 1905) nov. comb.…”

“…We conclude that the parasitic copepods infecting C. venezuelae, C. glaucofraenum and C. dicrus in the BVI are all P. tortugensis. COI sequence data are sparse for parasitic copepods (Boxshall & Hayes 2019). We could find no published sequences of putative conspecifics (P. tortugensis) or congeners against which to compare our samples, and sequences from confamilial taxa (family Chondracanthidae) are few.…”
