Missing teeth can be substituted by the use of the dental implants. This treatment modality has been proven to be a gold standard for replacement of the missing tooth in the past decade. The most widely used implants in the current scenario are the osseointegrated implants with various shortcomings and the most prominent one is the lack of the periodontal ligament. To overcome this, implants with periodontal ligaments can be procured and this can be possible by the application of the tissue engineering concept along with suitable implant material. Tissue engineering has become an integral part of the periodontal therapy and its use has opened various gates in the field of dentistry. A tissue engineered periodontal ligament around the dental implant has been introduced in the past few years and is called as ligaplant. These ligaplants has become a promising option that can provide good biological performance leading to an increased life of the prosthesis. This review article highlights the advantages of the periodontal ligament combined dental implants in comparison to the conventional implants and also the process of their procurement has been discussed.

During that time a large portion of the exploration was centered around the microbiological parts of the periodontitis. It has been seen that microscopic organisms alone are not adequate for the inception of periodontal infections, despite the fact that they have a significant influence simultaneously. Host reaction, smoking, stress and other danger factors impact the presence of the infection, and the weakness to forceful types of periodontitis is hereditarily decided. This information carried critical changes to the idea of etiology, anticipation and the treatment of periodontal ailments. There is a tremendous measure of information on the bacterial part in the inception of periodontal pockets, changes in the junctional epithelium, annihilation of periodontal tendon and resorption of the alveolar bone. The microscopic organisms assume a roundabout function in the tissue pulverization, through actuation of the host reaction which gets obsessive. It appears hard to accept that a similar host reaction factors are capable both for the safeguard, just as the presence of the infection. Accordingly one of the fundamental inquiries that can be posed to today is the reason isn't simply the periodontal infection -restricting in its tendency, or for what reason doesn't it stop spontaniously. In this review we will tell the what are the recent advancements in periodontics.

The aim of this study was to gain knowledge about ligaplants which is a recent advancement in the field of implant dentistry. Dental implants are being increasingly used to replace missing teeth among individuals. Regeneration of periodontal ligament (PDL) attachment around implants is under consideration to overcome the shortcomings of osseointegrated implants, and it is now emerging as a new beneficial method for replacing missing teeth. In the last few years, tissue engineering has led to the formation of a PDL around the dental implant called “ligaplants.” Various studies have been carried out in vitro and on test animals. These studies have shown that PDL cells have great potential for regeneration and re-establish connective tissue attachment. The various cells contained in the PDL play a crucial role in the optimal functionality of the tooth bone apparatus. This review article features the advantages and benefits of dental implants when combined with the PDL in comparison with conventional osseointegrated implants. Ligaplants are prepared by combining the biomaterial used in conventional implants with the PDL cells, which provides better biological performance and increases the lifespan of the prosthesis.
