Abstract:Microscopic, electrochemical and surface characterization techniques were used to investigate the effects of iron reducing bacteria (IRB) biofilm on carbon steel corrosion for 72 and 168 h under batch conditions. The organic nutrient availability for the bacteria was varied to evaluate biofilms formed under nutritionally rich, as compared to nutritionally deficient, conditions. Focused ion beam-scanning electron microscopy (FIB-SEM) was used to investigate the effect of subsurface biofilm structures on the cor… Show more
“…Microbiologically induced corrosion (MIC) is a serious concern in oilfield production. The contribution by Welikala et al [9] was focused on the study of biofilm growth by iron-reducing bacteria Shewanella putrefaciens on carbon steel and its effect on the corrosion behavior of the material in different culture media. They provided an in-depth evaluation of the effect of the IRB biofilms on the corrosion behavior of the carbon steel.…”

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
