Biofilm Removal from In Vitro Narrow Geometries Using Single and Dual Pulse Er:YAG Laser Photoacoustic Irrigation

Saša Terlep,

Franja Pajk
et al.

Abstract: The disinfection and removal of biofilm from titanium dental implants remains a great challenge in oral medicine. Here we present results of novel photoacoustic irrigation laser modalities for biofilm removal in model geometries mimicking the peri-implant pocket. The efficacy of single pulse (Er:YAG-SSP) and dual pulse (Er:YAG-AutoSWEEPS) photoacoustic irrigation modalities were determined for Enterococcus faecalis biofilm decontamination from titanium surfaces in narrow cylindrical and square gap geometries. … Show more

“…The results of this study reveal that adding laser treatment to SRP significantly decreases PPD, in line with the results of other studies. Laser conditioning of the root surface, de-epithelizing the internal and external area of the pocket, and stimulating bone growth by means of laser energy bring an important benefit in improving periodontal health [ 35 , 38 , 39 , 40 , 41 , 42 ].…”

“…Analysis of the extract was conducted by the Centro Nacional de Servicios de Constatación en Salud Animal, Mexico, using high-performance liquid chromatography. The obtained results were compared to laboratory reference aflatoxin standards (SIGMA Laramie, WY, USA) [ 53 ], and the outcome of this experiment is presented in Table 1 .…”
