Biogenesis of endosome-derived transport carriers

Abstract: Sorting of macromolecules within the endosomal system is vital for physiological control of nutrient homeostasis, cell motility, and proteostasis. Trafficking routes that export macromolecules from the endosome via vesicle and tubule transport carriers constitute plasma membrane recycling and retrograde endosome-to-Golgi pathways. Proteins of the sorting nexin family have been discovered to function at nearly every step of endosomal transport carrier biogenesis and it is becoming increasingly clear that they f… Show more

“…The early endosome is a central hub in membrane trafficking, particularly in neurons (Kennedy and Ehlers, 2006), and cellular mechanisms carefully regulate the balance of transport in and out of this organelle (Chi et al, 2015; Pfeffer, 2013). Enlarged endosomes represent an imbalance in endosomal trafficking and this phenotype is therefore one, although not the only, manifestation of endosomal traffic jams.…”

“…trans‐Golgi network and/or cell surface) for reuse. This process is orchestrated by a number of endosomal sorting machineries which play a crucial role in the maintenance of cellular homeostasis (Chi et al ., ). However, the molecular nature of these endosomal sorting machineries is not clearly understood, especially not in filamentous fungi.…”
