Biogeographical Division of the North Pacific Sublittoral and Upper Bathyal Zones by the Fauna of Mysidacea and Anomura (Crustacea)

Abstract: A biogeographical analysis of the North Pacific temperate waters is made on the basis of the distribution of 88 species of Mysidacea (Crustacea) and 111 species of Anomura (Crustacea: Decapoda: Reptantia) inhabiting depths from 0 to 1000-12000 m. At depths from 0 to 180-200 m and from 180-200 to 1000-1200 m, division by mysid fauna is made separately; division according to anomurans is unified. Original schemes of faunistic zonation of the North Pacific are given. The influence of abiotic factors, primarily te… Show more

“…Boreal and subtropical-boreal species are absent in the Laptev Sea (Petryashov et al, 2004). High-boreal areas of the North Pacific lack Arctic and Atlantic boreal-Arctic species, whereas the share of boreal species is no less than 45 50% (Petryashov, 2005). The macrobenthic fauna of the region studied is of a transitory character (Pacific boreal to Arctic) but is more similar to the Pacific boreal.…”

“…In their long world list of species of Mysidacea, Mauchline & Murano (1977) included this species in three zones corresponding to records for Japan, the north Pacific and the eastern Pacific. It has also been reported from the entire North Pacific by Petryashov (2005) who listed it as a 'Pacific tropical-boreal' species.…”
