Abstract: Background and purpose: P-glycoprotein (P-gp) is an adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-dependent membrane efflux pump for protecting cells against xenobiotic compounds. Unfortunately, overexpressed P-gp in neoplastic cells prevents cell entry of numerous chemotherapeutic agents leading to multidrug resistance (MDR).
