Biologia de Iphiseiodes zuluagai Denmark & Muma (Acari: Phytoseiidae)

Abstract: -Iphiseiodes zuluagai Denmark & Muma (Acari: Phytoseiidae) is a predaceous mite commonly found on citrus plants (Citrus spp.) in Brazil. With castor bean (Ricinus communis) pollen as food and 25 ± 2 °C, 70 ± 10% RH and 14 hours of photophase, most of the eggs hatched after ca.12 to 24 hours. The larval and protonymph stage duration was ca. 24 hours each, and ca. 48 hours for deutonymph. The life cycle from egg to adult lasted 5-6 days. The intrinsic rate of increase (r m ) was 0.122 females/ female/ day, the m… Show more

“…Eight arenas were placed equidistantly from the other in each petri dish, as described by Reis et al (1998). Both, larvae and nymphs of B. phoenicis were used as prey because those seem to be the stage preferred by Euseius citrifolius Denmark & Muma (Gravena et al 1994), E. alatus and I. zuluagai phytoseiids (Reis et al 2000a).…”

“…Estimations were also made for the finite reason of increase (λ), in other words, the number of times that the population grows a day (λ = e r m ), the average duration of a generation (T = ln R o / r m ) and the necessary time for the population to double (ln 2/ r m ), according to and Reis et al (1998). The times necessary to reach 50% mortality (TL50) and 100% mortality (TL100) were obtained by using the fertility life table.…”

“…The times necessary to reach 50% mortality (TL50) and 100% mortality (TL100) were obtained by using the fertility life table. TL50 corresponded to the age x where the survival (l x ) presented a value close to 0.50 (Reis et al, 1998).…”

“…The dishes were covered with PVC film to impede ecloded larvae from escaping. Each egg was observed daily, at 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (Reis et al, 1998), to determine the approximate moment of the larval eclosion.…”
