“…On the other hand, when the values of r m was converted to the finite rate of increase (e rm ), it was clear that population of predator had capacity to multiply about (1.24, 1.13 and 1.02) times/female/day when it fed on the mentioned diets, respectively. These results are similar to those obtained by previous studies (Gotoh et al, 2004;Canlas et al, 2006;El Taj and Jung, 2012;Saber, 2012). The r m values are affected not only by the food type but also by the type of the host plant of the prey (Kustutan and Cakmak, 2009).…”

“…However, it has been a debate regarding whether N. californicus is a specialist? Although showing strong preferences for Tetranychus spp., this species also feeds on multiple species of mites and insects, and even on pollens (Pena and Osborne 1996;Easterbrook 2001;Rahmani et al 2009;Saber 2012). It also shares some other features with generalists, such as being able to complete life cycle on immatures of other predatory mites (Walzer and Schausberger 1999a, b;Croft 1999, 2000), and having short mid-dorsal setae etc.…”

“…In our study, low r-value (0.10 day -1 ) in 'Gaviota' and 'Yalova' is probably due to low nutritional value of these plants for prey leading to low performance of predator and/or reduced consumption rate. The value of r when N. californicus was reared on T. urticae eggs and maize pollen was 0.17 and 0.23 day -1 , respectively (Saber, 2012). When N. californicus was fed on immature of T. urticae, it , s r-value (0.154 day -1 ) was lower than that obtained on the almond pollen (0.232 day -1 ) or maize pollen (0.179 day -1 ) (Khanamani et al, 2016).…”
