Medicinal plants have rich source of secondary metabolites, which can be screened either qualitatively or quantitatively. It is an important procedure for qualifying the plant drug and their potentialities. The active phytomoleucles present in a plant reflect the therapeutic values of medicinal species. In order to discover a new bioactive compounds from plant resources which could become new leads or new drugs, plant extracts should be simultaneously evaluated by appropriate screening methods by either biological or pharmacological targets. For the extraction procedures, solvent extraction is commonly employed for extraction of most active principles from the plants. Entada sp. showed more than 27 different components of phytochemicals with a rich source of polysaccharides whereas polysaccharides only hav e major drug potential which was carried out by GC-M S analysis. In the recent studies, the bioactive components of seed of Entada pursaetha using GC-MS were investigated using Perkin-Elmer Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry, while the Mass spectra of the compounds found in the extract was matched with previous literature.

Rationale: Natural plant products have been used to promote health, prevent sickness, and treat various ailments. These products often consist of leaves, flowers, bark, roots, seeds, and/or other parts of the plant. Many of the pharmacologically active constituents of these products are known, but the pharmacology of these constituents may not be fully elucidated. Natural plant-based products are also available in various forms other than the raw plant material. A wide array of commercial products such as capsules, powders, extracts, and electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) electronic liquids (e-liquids) are readily available and can be purchased from various outlets, both store-based retailers and online. Newer e-cigarettes are often advertised as "heat not burn" and are used for "vaping" various forms of extracts including "waxes" and "dabs" and raw plant material.Methods: A single manufacturer was found online selling "24 different herbs" in powders, extracts, or e-liquids. These were advertised as "legal in the USA" and each product listed multiple effects. Eight e-liquids, six extracts (resins), and four powders from eight different "herbs," namely African dream, areca nut, blue lotus, damiana, kra thum na, kra thum kok, klip dagga, and wild lettuce, were purchased. An advertisement for these products stated, "Most people use the leaves, powder or resin in vaporizers." Direct analysis in real time AccuTOF™ mass spectrometry (DART-MS) was used to identify the psychoactive components in the natural products. Results:The psychoactive compounds that were identified in only two of the eight e-liquids, three of the five resins, and three of the four powders were arecaidine, arecoline, coumarin, entadamide, mitragynine, 7-hydroxymitragynine, and nuciferine. Conclusions:Psychoactive and potentially harmful substances were present in the powders and resins of the natural products. The newer types of e-cigarettes made for consuming natural products may increase their abuse potential.

MOLLUSCICIDAL ACTIVITY OF Entada rheedii STEM BARK METHANOLIC EXTRACT AGAINST PADDY PEST Pomacea canaliculata (GOLDEN APPLE SNAIL)

The study was conducted to evaluate the molluscicidal activity of E. rheedii methanol bark extract against P. canaliculata and to screen for phytochemical compounds of E. rheedii bark extracts. The golden apple snails with size range of 20 -40 mm were treated with four different concentrations of E. rheedii (1000, 5000, 10000 and 20000 ppm) and paddy-field water mix with 50% methanol serving as the control treatment. The molluscicidal effects of the extract were evaluated after 24, 48 and 72 hours. The results of the study showed that high treatment concentrations (10000 and 20000 ppm) recorded the highest mortality rate (100%) while low concentrations (1000 ppm) showed the lowest mortality rate (27%). However, no mortality was recorded in the control treatment. The molluscicides activity with LC 50 is 1,611 ppm and LC 90 is 4,266 ppm and could be attributed to the presence of saponin in the bark extracts. E. rheedii bark extract provides a great potential for developing green pesticides to control P. canaliculata. Nevertheless, further research is needed to determine its biochemical mechanism.Keywords: golden apple snail, Entada rheedii, molluscicidal activity, phytochemical content Abstrak Kajian ini dijalankan untuk menilai aktiviti moluskisida oleh ekstrak metanol kulit kayu E. rheedii terhadap P. canaliculata dan untuk menyaring sebatian fitokimia yang terkandung di dalam ekstrak kulit kayu E. rheedii. Siput gondang emas bersaiz antara 20 -40 mm telah dirawat dengan empat kepekatan E. rheedii yang berbeza (1000, 5000, 10000 dan 20000 ppm) dan campuran air sawah padi dengan 50% metanol menjadi rawatan kawalan. Kesan moluskisida oleh ekstrak dinilai selepas 24, 48 dan 72 jam. Keputusan kajian menunjukkan bahawa kepekatan rawatan tinggi (10000 dan 20000 ppm) mencatatkan kadar kematian tertinggi (100%) manakala kepekatan yang rendah (1000 ppm) menunjukkan kadar kematian yang paling rendah (27%). Walau bagaimanapun, tiada kematian direkodkan dalam rawatan kawalan. Aktiviti moluskisida dengan LC 50 adalah 1611 ppm dan LC 90 adalah 4266 ppm boleh dikaitkan dengan kehadiran saponin dalam ekstrak kulit kayu. Ekstrak kulit kayu E. rheedii mempunyai potensi yang besar dalam membangunkan racun perosak yang selamat terhadap alam sekitar untuk mengawal P. canaliculata.
