Abstract:Biological markers are biochemical or physiological characteristics which may help to classify a person according to the presence or absence of some disease or risk of disease, either with respect to their current status or future susceptibility. Many biological markers related to alcoholism have been described; this review suggests a classification of them and indicates areas where they are well-established and other areas where further investigation may be useful.
