Biological Templated Synthesis of Water-Soluble Conductive Polymeric Nanowires

Abstract: One-dimensional (1D) conductive nanowire is one of the most important components for the development of nanosized electronic devices, sensors, and energy storage units. Great progresses have been made to prepare the 1D-conducting polymeric nanofibers by the low concentration process or the synthesis with hard or soft templates. However, it still remains as a great challenge to prepare polymeric nanofibers with narrow dispersity, high aspect ratio, and good processibility. With the rod-like tobacco mosaic virus… Show more

“…First, 1D composite fibres, denoted PTLF, were prepared according to our previous work. 7 Incubation of aniline and TMV at neutral pH resulted in the PANi-coated TMV fibres (denoted as PANi-TMV). The formation of highly branched PANi at neutral reaction pH prevented lateral association of PANi-TMV fibres due to the increase of steric repulsion (Fig.…”

“…Furthermore, mixing TMV with aniline and a mild oxidant resulted in highly uniform, micron length nanofi bers measuring approximately 22 nm in diameter, likely due to the non-covalent interactions between aniline and TMV [30]. These nanofibers were readily dispersed in water and addition of dopants increased the conductivity of the composite nanofi bers [31].…”
