Biologie d'Hippodamia variegata Goeze (Col., Coccinellidae) et possibilités de son utilisation contre Aphis gossypii Glov (Hom., Aphididae) sous serres de concombre

Abstract: Biology of Hippodamia variegata Goeze (Col., Coccinellidae) and its suitability against Aphis gossypii Glov (Hom., Aphididae) on cucumber under greenhouse conditions. Research work carried out in the laboratory has shown that temperature has a great effect on the development and the amount of feeding of Hippodamia variegata. The optimum temperature for its development and voracity approaches 26°C and the threshold development temperature is about 11.22°C. Investigations on its use in cucumber greenhouses again… Show more

“…The pre‐adult development times reported by Obrycki and Orr (1990) for H. variegata are quite close to ours, while those reported by E l H ag and Zaitoon (1996) are slightly longer. According to E l H abi et al. (2000) development from the first instar larvae to adult emergence took less time.…”

“…We selected A. bipunctata , a ladybird species commercially available from the biological control industry and most frequently used in augmentative releases in greenhouses (van Lenteren, ). In addition, we included Hippodamia variegata (Goeze), a species that has been successfully used against several aphid species worldwide (El Habi et al., ; Grez et al., ). Finally, we included Scymnus interruptus Goeze (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), the most abundant ladybird in citrus in Spain (Garcia‐Marí, ; Calabuig et al., ).…”

“…Most of them deal with the prey consumption of the predator (Fan and Zhao, 1988;Obrycki and Orr, 1990;Kalushkov et al, 1991;Sadeghi and Esmailli, 1992;Singh and Singh, 1994) or with the effect of temperature on the larval development of H. variegata (Michels and Bateman, 1986;Michels and Flanders, 1992;El Habi et al, 2000). Because of lack of information about the biology of H. variegata in Greece the following study was conducted to obtain data about voltinism, longevity and fecundity, factors that may be used to evaluate the effectiveness of Coccinellidae indirectly (Hodek, 1973).…”
