“…In this study TD, TL, and OTM increased significantly (P < 0.05) compared with the control at the highest cypermethrin concentration (LC 50 ) showing that cypermethrin is genotoxic to earthworms. Similar results have been shown in earthworms exposed to heavy metals such as cadmium (Cd) (Muangphra and Gooneratne, 2011), Cd and lead , chromium VI (Manerikar et al, 2008), and pesticides such as acetochlor (Xiao et al, 2006), chlorpyrifos (Piola et al, 2009), and glyphosate and paraquat (Muangphra et al, 2012). Cypermethrin also cause DNA damage in several other organisms as detected by the comet assay in Drosophila melanogaster (Mukhopadhyay et al, 2004), Wistar rat (Murkunde et al, 2012), fish Prochilodus lineatus (Simoniello et al, 2009), Swiss albino mice (Patel et al, 2006) and adult zebrafish (Jin et al, 2011).…”
