Biomass (dry weight and carbon content) of plankton crustacea from Broa reservoir (Sao Carlos, S.P.-Brazil) and its fluctuation across one year

Abstract: The dominance patterns of the main zooplankton groups depend on whether they are analysed by numerical density or dry weight. This fact is discussed in relation to the trophic state of the system.Biomass of planktonic crustaceans from Broa reservoir was analysed by dry weight. For Argyrodiaptomusfurcatus organic carbon was also determined. Values of 4.42 pg C ind. -' and 6.83 pg C ind. -r were obtained for males and females, respectively.Seasonal fluctuation of the species showed two peaks of abundance: the ra… Show more

“…The total zooplankton biomass estimated for Ponte Nova corresponds to other environments with similar trophic conditions, such as the Carioca Lake, Doce River and Lobo reservoir, for which values of 10.9 and 11 to 16 mgDW.m -3 were estimated, respectively, by Matsumura-Tundisi & Tundisi (1986) and Matsumura-Tundisi et al (1989).…”

“…As for calanoid copepods, the dry weight of Argyrodiaptomus furcatus was estimated earlier by Matsumura-Tundisi et al (1989); however, this study adds an estimate of the dry weight of Odontodiaptomus paulistanus and of three Notodiaptomus species.…”
