Biometria de frutos e sementes de Jatropha mollissima (Pohl) Baill. (Euphorbiaceae)

Abstract: Jatropha mollissima (pinhão-bravo) é uma planta endêmica do bioma Caatinga. Show more

“…The Atlantic Forest biome is currently the most affected by deforestation, harboring approximately 35% of all plant species in Brazil and playing a crucial role in food production, timber, and other derivatives (Souza;Cavalcante, 2019). The Caatinga biome is also undergoing degradation, particularly in terms of the loss of significant and important species for biodiversity, as mentioned by Borba et al (2018), emphasizing the urgent need for conservation and preservation to prevent extinction.…”

“…Studies related to biometry are relevant as they contribute to a better understanding of germination responses. Biometry is an important tool in identifying genetic variability in seeds, as well as variability in environmental factors, providing essential information for characterization (De Souza and Cavalcante, 2019). Indeed, studies conducted by Araújo et al (2022) show that seed biometry serves as a mechanism to detect genetic variability within the same species, aiding in determining the optimal fruit collection time and estimating species productivity, guiding specific improvement studies.…”

“…9,10 It has antiophidic properties, acting against the effects caused by snake bites, such as the formation of edemas and local hemorrhage, and it possesses antibacterial activity against pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Salmonella typhimurium, and Listeria monocytogenes. 11,12 However, it is popularly used as a healing plant, with its latex and sap being used to treat hemorrhages, cuts, and injuries, 7,8,13 despite the lack of studies that consolidates its hemostatic and healing action. 13,14 Considering the above, the objective of this study was to evaluate in vivo the hemostatic action of the J. mollissima (Pohl) Baill.…”

“…In recent years, studies concerning J. mollissima have been related to the morphological description or reproductive biology, for example (Neves et al 2010, Neves et al 2011, Queiroz et al 2013, Vasconcelos et al 2014, Souza and Cavalcante 2019. For viability analyses, there are still no methodologies established for the species, and it is necessary to adapt protocols of other species to perform the analyses (Pinto et al 2009).…”
