Biomimetic magnetic sensor for electrochemical determination of scombrotoxin in fish

Abstract: This work addresses a novel, rapid and cost-effective approach for the electrochemical sensing of scombrotoxin (histamine) in fish based on magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer (magnetic-MIP). The histamine magnetic-MIP was synthesized by the core-shell method using histamine as a template, and 2-vinyl pyridine as functional monomer. The magnetic-MIP was characterized by TEM, SEM, and confocal microscopy. Additionally, the binding capacity of magnetic-MIP toward histamine was investigated and compared with m… Show more

“…The MCPE‐MMIP presented higher current intensity in E2 oxidation, 2,3 fold higher, compared to the other configurations (Figure 3A). This result is due to the effect of pre‐concentration of the analyte by the magnetic particles together with their high surface area and the adsorption capacity of MMIP [41, 42]. MMIP has also several selective sites, enabling a better interaction with analyte, this interaction results in a more sensitive method.…”

“…For example, Hasan et al presented the development of a core-shell magnetic-MIP for the electrochemical sensing of histamine in fish samples (Fig. 9) [86]. The developed MIP demonstrated high selectivity as almost no interference was observed for the other three more common biogenic amines.…”

“…Hassan et al [ 134 ] proposed the use of MagMIPs for the preconcentration of histamine in fish samples, followed by direct electrochemical readout of this biogenic amine from the surface of magneto-actuated electrodes. These MagMIPs were synthesized by the core-shell method using histamine as a template and 2-vinyl pyridine as a functional monomer.…”
