Biomimetic synthesis of silver nanoparticles from Streptomyces atrovirens and their potential anticancer activity against human breast cancer cells

Abstract: Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been undeniable for its antimicrobial activity while its antitumour potential is still limited. Therefore, the present study focused on determining cytotoxic effects of AgNPs on Michigan cancer foundation-7 (MCF-7) breast cancer cells and its corresponding mechanism of cell death. Herein, the authors developed a bio-reduction method for AgNPs synthesis using actinomycetes isolated from marine soil sample. The isolated strain was identified by 16s ribotyping method and it was f… Show more

“…LK3 from marine sediments (Karthik et al, 2014), Streptomyces sp. 09 PBT 005 from sugarcane rhizosphere soil (Saravanakumar et al, 2014) and Streptomyces atrovirens from marine sediments (Subbaiya et al, 2017). Streptomyces are still being explored from broad range of environments from farm soil (Baygar and Ugur, 2017;Gupta et al, 2017) to amazon rainforest (Silva-Vinhote et al, 2017) and acid forest (Składanowski et al, 2017), for silver nanoparticles synthesis and also explored for broad range of applications including antipathogenicity, antioxidants and sensors.…”

“…Notably, the exact mechanism of biosynthesis of metal NPs is not well understood yet (25). However, it is believed that some enzymes play a role in bio-reducing metal ions to form metal NPs (26,27). Figure 2 shows the schematic mechanism of microbial-mediated synthesis of metal NPs (11).…”
