Biomolecular aspects of depression: A retrospective analysis

Abstract: This study serves to further elucidate the role of biomolecules in the regulation of affective disorders, such as depression. Resulting in providing a network of clinically relevant biomarkers to objectively assess and monitor general depression.

“…where N i is the size of the group i, µ i is the mean of an investigated parameter in group i, σ 2 i is the variance of this parameter [13,75]. If an absolute value of d is between [0.2-0.5] the effect is small (Sm), [0.5-0.8] is a medium effect (Md), an absolute value between [0.8-1.2] indicates a large effect (Lg), and an absolute value greater than +1.2 is a very large effect (VL).…”

“…Archetype Movements Integration-focuses on the enhancement of the primary biomechanics of motor patterns (extension, flexion, rotation, stretching-compression, and other) giving support for structural aspect of numerous reflex patterns, development of automatic and consciously learned motor abilities and skills; also postural and motor control, with secondary improvement in the speed of perception, focusing, and memory, in sensory-motor integration, and cognitive functions [75].…”

“…Elevated levels of inflammatory markers were found to be associated with decreased urinary KYNA in MDD patients. 89 Interestingly, KYNA/3-hydroxykynurenine (3-HK) was also reported to negatively correlate with hippocampal activity during memory recall, and KYNA/quinolinic acid (QA) correlated with negative specific memory recall and with hippocampal and amygdala volume in MDD patients. 90,91 It might be hypothesized that the kynurenine pathway could participate in the impairment of cognitive functions observed in MDD by influencing glutamatergic transmission in brain structures associated with cognitive processes.…”
