“…The accumulation extent of another important congener BDE-99 in fi sh was in the second place just following BDE-47. Its distribution pattern and level were consistent with eel from Italy lagoon (Mariottini et al 2008). But in some other previous reports, the BDE-99 contributed < 1% of total PBDEs (Xian et al 2008;Xia et al, 2011).…”

“…This ratio was about 5 in European eel from Orbetello lagoon in Italy (Mariottini et al 2008), close to that research. Marked differences in the ratios of BDE47 to BDE99 were observed among the examined biological species of the St. Lawrence Estuary food web.…”

“…This result could suggest that lipid content, at least in the range recorded in our samples, is not a large determinant of PBDE load. A similar result has also been observed in a biomonitoring study carried out in eels from different points along the Orbetello lagoon (Mariottini et al, 2008). It is worth to underline that the choice of sampling of T. saltator within a definite range of size (0.015-0.02 g) could be responsible of the absence of any correlation.…”

“…The only available data regard eels from different points along the Orbetello lagoon (Mariottini et al, 2008). As reported in this study (Mariottini et al, 2008), eels from Albegna river mouth showed the highest levels of PBDEs even though their concentrations were low if compared to levels reported from many other industrialized areas. Our results were consistent with this study, showing that sandhoppers from Albegna river mouth were characterized by an higher concentration of PBDEs respect to the other sampling sites.…”

“…This is in agreement with the higher eel to suspended matter ratios in the Lippe. According to Mariottini et al [55], BDE-47 is considered to have the highest bioconcentration factor of PBDE congeners. In the Lippe suspended matter, BDE-47 was present in approximately the same concentrations as BDE-209.…”
