Bioprospecting of Diaporthe terebinthifolii LGMF907 for antimicrobial compounds

Abstract: Antibiotic-resistant bacteria have been observed with increasing frequency over the past decades, driving the search for new drugs and stimulating the interest in natural products sources. Endophytic fungi from medicinal plants represent a great source of novel bioactive compounds useful to pharmaceutical and agronomical purposes. Diaporthe terebinthifolii is an endophytic species isolated from Schinus terebinthifolius, a plant used in popular medicine for several health problems. The strain D. terebinthifolii… Show more

“…terebinthifolii LGMF907 isolated from Schinus terebinthifolius . They showed antibacterial activities against the methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) [ 131 ]. Cytosporone D ( 54 ) and mucorisocoumarin A ( 257 ) were isolated from the endophytic fungus D .…”

“…Endophytic fungi have also been identified as producers of antimicrobial substances, such as diaporthin and orthosporin isolated from the fungus Diaporthe terebinthifolii, with bacteriostatic action against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria [41]. In our study, we observed that all isolated endophytic fungi showed bacteriostatic activity against Gram-positive ATCC strains of K. pneumoniae and S. enteriditis, whereas only D. endophytica and O. elatum were able to inhibit the growth of methicillin-resistant nosocomial strains.…”

“…Endophytic fungi isolated from mangrove ecosystems, including fungi belonging to the genus Diaporthe, have been described as rich sources of biologically active compounds with a variety of applications (Lin et al, 2005;Huang et al, 2008;Sebastianes et al, 2012;Brissow et al, 2017;de Medeiros et al, 2018;Huang et al, 2019), opening new avenues for biotechnological research. In this study, we evaluated the biotechnological potential of crude extract from Diaporthe spp.…”

“…The emergence of multidrug-resistant microorganisms has generated considerable attention and stimulated the search for new drugs. In this context, studies on the antimicrobial activity of endophytic mangrove-derived fungi against resistant human pathogens have been demonstrated (Prihanto et al, 2011;Sebastianes et al, 2012;Handayani et al, 2017;de Medeiros et al, 2018;Huang et al, 2019). Bezerra et al (2015) tested 32 endophytic fungi isolated from Bauhinia forficata against 10 pathogenic bacteria in disc diffusion assays.…”
