Bioremediation of Diesel Contaminated Marine Water by Bacteria: A Review and Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract: Oil pollution can cause tremendous harm and risk to the water ecosystem and organisms due to the relatively recalcitrant hydrocarbon compounds. The current chemical method used to treat the ecosystem polluted with diesel is incompetent and expensive for a large-scale treatment. Thus, bioremediation technique seems urgent and requires more attention to solve the existing environmental problems. Biological agents, including microorganisms, carry out the biodegradation process where organic pollutants are mineral… Show more

“…The symbiotic and epiphytic microorganisms on the surface of seaweed likely play important roles in organic pollutant degradation because microorganisms carry out biodegradation by mineralizing organic pollutants into water, carbon dioxide and fewer toxic compounds; in particular, numerous marine microorganisms have been successfully used in organic pollutant biodegradation (Fig. 3 ) (Nikolaivits et al ., 2017 ; Khalid et al ., 2021 ).…”

“…Such conditions hamper the natural processes of self-remediation of the environment. To a large extent, the success of the elimination of oil pollution depends on the presence of microbial strains that are adapted to extreme habitat conditions and capable of synthesizing surfactants, as well as possess a set of biodegradation genes [13] , [14] , [15] , [16] , [17] , [18] , [19] , [20] .…”
