Bioremediation of Petroleum-Polluted Soil Using Biosurfactant Producing Bacteria, Pseudomonas sp.

Abstract: The oil degradation capability of Pseudomonas sp. were tested using lipase enzyme producing bacterial strains from petroleum oil contaminated areas. The high level of lipase production was observed at temperature range from 30° to 37°C and a pH of 4 to 7. The optimum pH and temperature was 7 and 37°C for the strain Pseudomonas sp. respectively. The presence of sucrose and yeast extract in the medium enhanced enzyme production when compared with other carbon and nitrogen sources. Pseudomonas sp. can be effectiv… Show more

“…Petroleum hydrocarbon contamination from oil and gas industry, oil spills, tank leaks, lubrication, petroleum exploration, transportation, and services, are the major issues affecting soil environmental pollution today [1]. Further, anthropogenic activities result in the annual release of 5 million tons of petroleum oil into the environment that cause oil pollution [2]. In terms of environmental contamination, the extraction, processing, and transportation of petroleum oil and its products are of special concern around the globe [3].…”
