Biosorption of chromium (VI) from aqueous solutions and ANN modelling

Abstract: The use of sustainable, green and biodegradable natural wastes for Cr(VI) detoxification from the contaminated wastewater is considered as a challenging issue. The present research is aimed to assess the effectiveness of seven different natural biomaterials, such as jackfruit leaf, mango leaf, onion peel, garlic peel, bamboo leaf, acid treated rubber leaf and coconut shell powder, for Cr(VI) eradication from aqueous solution by biosorption process. Characterizations were conducted using SEM, BET and FTIR spect… Show more

“…where q e is the amount of solute adsorbed per unit weight of adsorbent in mg/g AC, C e is the equilibrium concentration of solute in the bulk solution in mg/L, K F is a constant indicative of the relative adsorption capacity of the adsorbent in mg/g AC, and 1/n is a constant indicative of the intensity of the adsorption [33,34]. e log (C e ) graph plotted against log (q e ) shows K F and n values, which provide information on adsorption bond strength and bond distribution [32,35].…”

“…In recent years, artificial neural networks (ANNs) have proven to be an excellent tool for modeling engineering problems because of their ability to handle non-linear processes. 28 ANNs are an advanced mathematical modeling procedure, which mimics a biological neuron system. 29 Prediction of sorption of heavy metals from aqueous solution using ANN has been performed successfully in several studies.…”
