Biosorption of Trivalent Chromium from Aqueous Solution by Red Seaweed Polysiphonia nigrescens

Abstract: This paper presents the biosorption of chromium onto red seaweed (Polysiphonia nigrescens). Batch mode experiments were performed to determine experimental parameters affecting sorption process such as pH, contact time, initial metal ion concentration and biomass dosage. The Cr(III) sorption was dependent on pH and adsorbent dosage. The adsorption kinetic data could be fitted with a pseudo-second-order model and the equilibrium data with a Langmuir model. The maximum sorption capacity was of 16.11 mg/g at pH 4… Show more

“…8) incorporates the features of the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms into a single equation. Thus, this model is capable of representing adsorption equilibrium over a wide concentration range and can be applied either in homogeneous or heterogeneous systems because of its flexibility (Blanes et al 2011;Foo and Hameed 2010).…”

В их клеточных стенках присутствует альгинат, имеющий в функциональных группах карбоновые кислоты, такие как глюроновая и маннороновая (Mahmoud, Mohamed, 2017), способные связывать металлы с помощью сложных электростатических взаимодействий (Haug, 1961;Papageorgiou et al, 2006;Patricia Blanes et al, 2011).…”
