Biosourced graphitic nanoparticle loaded hyperbranched polyurethane composites – application as multifunctional high-performance coatings

Abstract: The present work reports the development of a novel nitrogen rich hyperbranched polyurethane-urea nanocomposite using bio-sourced graphitic nanoparticles as an effective filler. Initially, a nitrogen rich hyperbranched polyol is obtained by a two step polycondensation reaction between castor oil derived sebacic acid and triethanolamine. The formation of the hyperbranched polyol was confirmed by using various spectroscopic techniques like FTIR, 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR and ESI-MS. The resulting hyperbranched polyol wi… Show more

“…The nonbonded CO peaks are observed at 1,727 cm −1 , and bonded CO peaks are observed at 1,632 cm −1. Further, as noticed in the case of APUS‐20% sample, the intensity of the bonded (bonded with hydrogen) CO slightly increases. This indicates that the hydrogen bonding formation could be enhanced at higher PDMS loading, through more urethane–urea linkage formation .…”

“…Reports by Goswami and Singh and Kumar et al employed polycondensation technique to synthesize nitrogen‐doped polyester polyols for sorption of metals, improved anti‐corrosive and antimicrobial properties. Very recently our group has reported an A 3 + B 2 approach for developing nitrogen core hyperbranched polyester‐polyol based polyurethane coatings exhibiting high thermo‐mechanical and anti‐corrosive properties .…”

“…It was found that the combination of silica and carbon nanoparticles instilled shape recovery properties to the polymer along with the increase in other physic-chemical properties [65]. Pilla et al [66] prepared camphoric carbon nanoparticle loaded hyperbranched polyurethane hybrids for high performance coating application. A highly corrosion resistant hydrophobic coating with anti-microbial property was reported [66].…”
