Biosynthesis, Characterization and Antimicrobial Activity of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles Synthesized by Fungi

Abstract: In the present study, extracellular synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles (FeNPs) was achieved by Aspergillus flavus isolate D05.The biosynthesized iron oxide nanoparticles have been widely favored because of biodegradablity, low toxicity and highly reactive surfaces. IONPs were synthesized through the reduction of aqueous Fe 3+ ions. The obtained iron oxide nanoparticles were characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy, Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), and Transmission electron microscope (TEM). TEM i… Show more

“…It was investigated how the initial concentration of heavy metals affected the effectiveness of adsorption. The adsorbents were mixed with an aqueous solution at concentrations of (1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 5.0, and 10) mg/L with the same 45 min contact time and dose of 0.4 g. The experiment used 1 L of a synthetic aqueous solution rotating at 150 rpm [ 17 ].…”

“…The effect of pH on the adsorption of Cu, Pb, Se, Zn, and Cr ions in the solution has been established and considered an important parameter affecting the performance of the adsorption process. At varied pH levels (3,6, and 9), removing of Cu, Pb, Se, Zn, and Cr ions from the aqueous solution was conducted with a constant dosage of 0.4 g/L at 150 rpm/45 min [ 17 ].…”

“…Aspergillus flavus has been used for the extracellular synthesis of spherical IONPs with an average size of 28–33 nm. Different functional groups such as alkyl, carboxylic acid, hydroxyl, and amide were responsible for the reduction and capping of Aspergillus flavus mediated IONPs [ 45 ]. Baskar et al (2017) synthesized IONPs ranging in size from 40–100 nm using Aspergillus terreus.…”
