Biosynthesis of Gold Nanoparticles from Nauclea latifolia Leaves

Abstract: The biosynthesis of gold nanoparticles fromNauclea latifolialeaf/plant extract is presented in this paper. The synthesis is shown to produce gold nanoparticles from hydrogen Tetra-chloro auric acid (HAuCl4) in less than 1 minute. The resulting gold nanoparticles are characterized using UV/Visible spectrophotometry (UV-Vis), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX), Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The implications of the results are discussed for potential applicatio… Show more

“…A general trend was found of which the SPR peak shifted towards the higher wavelength region and became narrower as the concentration increased. This shift in wavelength was accompanied by a decrease in the nanoparticle diameter, however, this contradicts other studies that have stated a red shift denotes an increase in particle size or agglomeration [139,147,148]. In contrast, the broadening of the absorption band indicates the existence of a larger size range within the solution.…”

“…On the other hand, numerous studies experienced different shapes, including triangular, pentagonal and hexagonal structures [ 136 , 137 , 138 ]. Furthermore, the clustering and polydispersity of particles were the main obstacles faced by researchers during the biosynthesis of gold nanocrystals [ 139 , 140 ].…”

“…Barminas et al (2014) also described an environmentally friendly approach for synthesis of 2-100 nm sized AgNPs by employing extract of Ageratum conyzoides. Dozie-Nwachukwu et al (2016a) described the phytosynthesis of AuNPs from Nauclea latifolia leaf extract and the implications for detection and treatment of cancer were elaborated. Dozie-Nwachukwu et al (2016b) also showed that both whole-cell and cellfree extract of Serratia marcescens produced AuNPs via green synthesis.…”
