Biotechnological tools for detection, identification and management of plant diseases

Abstract: Detection and identification of plant pathogens is one of the most important strategies for sustainable plant diseases management. For this reason, the availability of fast, sensitive and accurate methods for detection and identification of plant pathogens is increasingly necessary to improve disease control decision making process. In other words, new technologies and improved methods with reduced/fair cost and improved speed, throughput, multiplexing, accuracy and sensitivity have emerged as an essential str… Show more

“…By virtue of the speed, sensitivity, specificity and inherent simplicity, PCR has been extensively used for many kinds of applications, particularly revolutionized the field of diagnostics (Singh et al, 2014;Rajalakshmi 2017;Belete and Boyraz, 2019). PCR-based Method of Diagnosis/Identification can be broadly dived into two namely (a) when the sequence of nucleotide is known and (b) when it is unknown.…”

“…Depending on the symptoms, visual monitoring can be performed in the plant samples; it is frequently feasible to detect the primary pathogenesis of a worm, fungal spp., bacterial spp., or viruses [70]. Plant diseases can be identified by examining leaf curling, color change, and spotting of either brown or white color [71].…”

“…Therefore, different scientific seed health examinations and treatments are important to maintain seed health. Detection and identification of plant pathogens are among the most important strategies for sustainable plant disease management, including the availability of fast, sensitive, and accurate methods to improve disease control decision-making [2].…”
