Biotecnología para la producción masiva de juveniles del botete diana Sphoeroides annulatus: inducción hormonal y cultivo larvario

Abstract: Abstract.-The bullseye puffer fish Sphoeroides annulatus is an important marine species due to its culture potential and high market value in Mexico. Research on aspects of reproduction and larvae culture of this puffer fish commenced in México in 1997 at Centro de Investigación en Alimentación y Desarrollo (CIAD-Mazatlan Unit), Mazatlán, Sinaloa. This work describes the following biotechnological developments for obtaining mass production of the bullseye puffer fish juveniles: hormonal induction methods, spaw… Show more

“…It has great potential due to the high commercial value of its species, excellent quality and demand in the market, besides having optimal environmental conditions for its development (Abdo‐de la Parra et al . ). However, as mariculture development is slow, crops have been partially cultivated for research purposes and commercial pilot tests based on capture and fattening, which have also been carried out (Table ).…”

“…In 1997, studies on its cultivation began and later developed processes for egg hatching and larval culture in the Center for Advanced Research in Food and Development (CIAD) of Mazatlán (García‐Ortega ; Abdo‐de la Parra et al . ). Some authors affirm that the methods of obtaining wild breeders close to spawning have been improved (Álvarez‐Lajonchère et al .…”

“…During World War II, this fish supported commercial fisheries on the east coast of the United States Davis 1973, Deeds et al 2008). Currently, in Japan, some species of Sphoeroides are consumed regularly due to its white flesh, few bones, and the ease of capture and processing (Abbott et al 2009, Abdo de la Parra et al 2013. The southern pufferfish, Sphoeroides nephelus (Goode et Bean, 1882), is a common bycatch species of recreational fishing in Yucatan, Mexico (Poot-López et al 2017), Florida in the United States (Abbott et al 2009), and in artisanal shrimp fishing (Poot-Salazar et al 2009).…”
