Biotemplated Synthesis of Anatase Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticles via Lignocellulosic Waste Material

Abstract: Anatase titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2-NPs) were synthesized by sol-gel method using rice straw as a soft biotemplate. Rice straw, as a lignocellulosic waste material, is a biomass feedstock which is globally produced in high rate and could be utilized in an innovative approach to manufacture a value-added product. Rice straw as a reliable biotemplate has been used in the sol-gel method to synthesize ultrasmall sizes of TiO2-NPs with high potential application in photocatalysis. The physicochemical prope… Show more

“…25 The surface modification of nanomaterials by biopolymer is also applied to avoid agglomeration, increasing the stability and compatibility in different media. 26 Biotemplating approach is cost effective, less time consuming and environmental friendly as most of the biotemplates are from natural sources. 27 κ-carrageenan is one of the examples of biological structures that comes from the family of linear sulphated polysachharide and are extracted from red edible seaweeds.…”

“…The increment on the thermal stability of the samples showed when the samples were more than the nanoparticle content because the thermal stability of the nanosilica could generate a high residual weight in the samples and the high crystallinity of the nanosilica displayed degradation of more than 400 ๐ C. The same result from the study was the effect of the nanosilica on the thermal behavior of the copolymer by Yazdimamaghani et al ( 2013) [ 16] and the glass manufacturer that used silica as a main component at very high temperature. A study by Ramimoghadam et al ( 2014) studied the effect of titania on the thermal stability of the film in which TiO2 or titania was the decomposition of the organic group's residuals of titania and the condensation effect of theTiO2 anatase phases (forming a crystallinity phase) [17]. Bagheri et al (2013) studied about anathase phase of titania in which the Anatase phases of TiO2 showed the TGA curve to be around 350-450 ๐ C [ 18] .…”

“…The crystalline structure, size, shape, and surface area control the electrical, optical, and chemical properties, and the photocatalytic performance of TiO 2 nanostructures (Li et al 2004, Nonoyama et al 2012, Ramimoghadam et al 2014b). These features are chiefly based on their respective synthesis routes.…”
