Abstract: Maize bran, an agro‐processing waste residue, is a good source of ferulic acid that can be further valorized for vanillin production. However, extraction of ferulic acid from natural sources has been challenging due to low concentrations and intensive extraction procedures. In the present work, ferulic acid streams (purities ranging from 5% to 75%) extracted from maize bran using thermochemical methods were evaluated for biotransformation to vanillin, employing Amycolatopsis sp. as a whole‐cell biocatalyst.
