Bipolar electric field-induced nucleation of magnetic domains with 90° domain walls

Abstract: Magnetoelectric effects in multiferroics give an opportunity to control intrinsic magnetic ordering with an external electric field. In this paper, we demonstrate the emergence of magnetic domains in the local electric field generated by cantilever tip in the (110)-oriented iron garnet film at room temperature. We show that the in-plane magnetized phase observed in this film enables the nucleation of the magnetic domain with 90°domain walls both at positively and negatively biased tip. The found bipolarity of … Show more

“…[23] and experimentally observed on 90 • domain walls in Ref. [24]. However, in the case of our samples with a 180 • domain wall we have not seen the negative linear charge densities and have not observed electric-field-induced chirality switching either, which is why the graphs for negative electric fields E are not shown.…”

“…For example, the wall is always oriented relative to the crystallographic axes in the plane that contains the easy axis of cubic anisotropy. In addition, the structure of the Bloch 180°-DW found in [24] also has an asymmetric profile relative to the wall center, which manifests itself in the displacement of its center relative to the origin of the coordinates, that is, ( ) / q p = ¹ y 0 2. A more detailed analysis of the dependence j = ( ) j x for DW(I) at λ≠0 shows that in the left part of the profile, there are two sections with different slopes of the curves and, accordingly, different values of the derivatives ( ) j x ¢ on these areas (figure 3(a)).…”

“…Experimental study of magnetoelectric effects in the array of nano-dots in the composite structure of ferromagnetic-piezo-electric [Pt/Co/Ta] 12 taking into account DMI is performed in work [44]. The magnetoelectric effect is experimentally studied in the films of ferrite garnets [15,45], but in the absence of DMI. Nevertheless, the presented results indicate the characteristic features of polar states, which depend and are determined by the topology of magnetic inhomogeneities.…”
