Bis(2-amino-3-carboxypyridinium) sulfate trihydrate

Abstract: In the title compound, 2C6H7N2O2 +·SO4 2−·3H2O, there are two independent cations which are connected into N—H⋯O hydrogen-bonded dimers. In the crystal, O—H⋯O hydrogen-bonded sulfate–water sheets run parallel to (001) and are linked into a three-dimensional network via intermolecular N—H⋯O and O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds through the 2-aminonicotinium dimers. Further stabilization is provided by weak intermolecular C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. R 4 3(10) and R 2 2(8) graph-set rings are observed. The crystal studied was an… Show more

“…Similar dimers have been also observed in the structures with dihydrogen phosphate and sulfate anions (Akriche & Rzaigui 2007;Berrah et al 2011a), while cations in the nitrate structure adopt a different configuration (Berrah et al 2011b). …”

“…Anion substitution seems to have an important influence on hydrogen bound patterns. In attempt to elucidate this influence and as part of our search for new hybrid compounds based on protonated N-hyterocycle, we report in this paper the new structure of 2-aminonicotinium nitrate; its homologues obtained with phosphate and sulfate anions have been described previously (Akriche & Rzaigui, 2007;Berrah et al, 2011a).…”

“…(Bouacida, 2008;Kickelbick, 2007;Mitzi et al, 1998). Hybrid structures including substituted pyridines organic units have drawn increasing attention due to their potential applications in biological and industrial fields (Asaji et al, 2007;Lynch & Jones, 2004), nitrogen in the pyridine ring has a lone pair of electrons which is not delocalized with the aromatic π-electron system and is easily available for protonation (Berrah et al, 2011a). In the presence of a carboxylic acid substituent, they are recognized as efficient N-O donors exhibiting diverse mode of coordination (Beatty, 2003;Sengupta et al, 2001).…”
