Bis(4-aminopyridinium) bis(oxalato-κ2O,O′)cuprate(II) dihydrate

Abstract: The CuII atom in the title salt, (C5H7N2)2[Cu(C2O4)2]·2H2O, is located on a center of inversion and is chelated by two oxalate groups in a square-planar coordination geometry. The cation, anion and water molecules interact through hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network.

“…These distances and angles are akin to those found in some reported Cu(II) oxalate salts featuring similar coordination motifs. 23,24 The packing of 1 shows strong interlocking between complex anion and cationic sub-lattices through a multidirectional hydrogen bonding network. The organic cations, (C 5 H 7 N 2 O) + , link adjacent copper oxalate anions via hydrogen bonding interactions N2-H2⋯O2, N1-H1A⋯O6 and O1-H1C⋯O3 to form a 1D chain in the x-direction (Table 2).…”

“…In this work, we report the synthesis of single crystals of a facile spin 1/2 AfHc system, (C 5 H 7 N 2 ) 2 [Cu(C 2 O 4 ) 2 ]·2H 2 O (abbreviated as CuD henceforth), with a moderate value of exchange coupling constant J / k B = 1.23 K and saturation field H s = 1.75 T. The structure has been reported previously in ref. 33 but no other details of the system was given. Our single crystals were grown using the technique liquid–liquid diffusion that resulted in the growth of large sized single crystals with a 100% yield.…”
