Bis[4-oxido-2-oxo-2,3-dihydropyrimidin-1-ium-5-carboxylato(1.5−)-κ2O4,O5]bis(1,10-phenanthroline-κ2N,N′)dysprosium(III) dihydrate

Abstract: In the title compound, [Dy(C5H2.5N2O4)2(C12H8N2)2]·2H2O, the DyIII ion is located on a twofold rotation axis and is coordinated in a square-antiprismatic geometry by two chelating 1,10-phenanthroline molecules as well as two 4-oxido-2-oxo-2,3-dihydropyrimidin-1-ium-5-carboxylato(1.5−) anions. N—H⋯O and O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds help to stabilize the crystal structure. The H atom involved in an N—H⋯N hydrogen bond is disordered around a twofold rotation axis.

“…, 0 -Diimine molecules strongly favouring bidentate chelation coordination, such as 2,2 0 -bipyridine and 2-(2pyridyl)-1H-benzimidazole (Hpybim), are introduced to prevent the formation of uracil-5-carboxylic acid-bridging manganese polymeric complexes, and thus small molecular manganese compounds are expected. In the present work, the reaction of disodium uracil-5-carboxylic acid with manganese acetate in the presence of Hpybim affords pale-yellow crystals of the title compound, (I), which represents a rare example of a mononuclear six-coordinate transition metal complex with mixed ligands including uracil-5-carboxylic acid, though several eight-coordinate lanthanide complexes with a similar mixed-ligand system have been reported recently (Xiong et al, 2008;Sun & Jin, 2004;Xing et al, 2008;Liu et al, 2009).…”

“…One structural type is the group consisting of structures (II) and (III) (discussed above), bearing no ancillary ligands except aqua. There are two further structural types, one with phenanthroline as an ancillary ligand, the first formulated as [Ln III (uc À1 )(uc À2 )-(phen) 2 ] (phen is 1,10-phenanthroline), with six isomorphous structures reported [Ln = Eu, Tb and Yb (Sun & Jin, 2004a), Gd (Xiong et al, 2008), Er (Xing et al, 2008a) and Dy (Liu et al, 2009)], and the second formulated as [Ln III 2 (uc À1 ) 4 -(uc À2 )(phen) 4 ], with two isomorphous structures [Ln = Pr (Sun & Jin, 2004a) and Nd (Xing et al, 2008b)]. All of them present a mixture of uc À1 and uc À2 ligands, and their packing indices (in the range 75-77%) are similar to that found for (I) (77.7%), thus confirming the strong cohesion capabilities of the uc group in all the structures in which it takes part.…”
