Bis[(μ‐iodo)iodo‐η‐cyclopentadienylruthenium(III)], ‘CpRuI2’ = [CpRuI2]2: a Further Example of a [CpXM(μ‐X)2MXCp] Parent with cis Arrangement

Abstract: The very limited array of (structurally described) adducts of the form [CpMX 2 ] 2 ϵ [CpMX(μ-X) 2 MXCp] with the unsubstituted/parent Cp (ϵ C 5 H 5 , cyclopentadienyl) ligand is augmented by a study of [CpIRu(μ-I) 2 RuICp], found to be isotypic with the recently described chloride and, with it, providing the only examples of such dimers in their 'cis' form, i.e., the terminal-X and Cp pairs to the same side of the Ru 2 (μ-X) 2 arrays, which are appre-1093 ciably folded at the X···X lines, with the short Ru···R… Show more

“…The structure of iodide 8c was established by X‐ray diffraction (Figure 3). The Ru ··· Cp distance in 8c (1.857 Å) is close to those in the half‐sandwich complexes [CpRu(PPh 3 ) 2 I] (1.855 Å)33 and [CpRuI 2 ] 2 (1.851 Å)34 but is notably longer than those in sandwich compounds Cp 2 Ru (1.822 Å)35 and 1 (1.811 Å) 17,18. The Ru–C cod distances and geometry of the cyclooctadiene ligand in 8c are generally similar to those in complex [Cp*Ru(cod)Cl] 36.…”
