The β 1 -adrenoceptor affinity appears to play a major role in determining prophylactic efficacy since nonselective agents such as propranolol, moderately β 1 -selective agents such as metoprolol, and highly β 1 -selective drugs such as bisoprolol (van de Ven et al 1997;Würz et al 1991) all are effective prophylactics. Thus, concomitant blockade of β 2 -adrenoceptors does not appear to be required for effective migraine prophylaxis.…”
