Black fungus – An emerging threat

Abstract: The term “black fungus” is referred to fulminating, dreadful fungus mucormycosis infection, so-called because of the black-colored necrotic areas it causes due to the black-colored colonies of the fungus, which thrives in infected tissues. Recently, in this COVID-19 pandemic, it has emerged as a new threat to the world. This article enlightens us with the predisposing factors, pathogenesis, types, clinical features, diagnostic modalities, and treatment of Mucormycosis.
