Bleeding in early pregnancy

Abstract

Vaginal bleeding is one of the commonest early pregnancy presentations in primary care. It is reported to occur in approximately one in four pregnancies. Although Early Pregnancy Assessment Units have been well established in the NHS, most patients with bleeding in early pregnancy still need to be assessed by a GP, midwife, or other allied health professional before referral. Therefore, it is important that clinicians working in primary care are able to assess bleeding in early pregnancy and refer patients accordingly.
