Blends of a chlorinated poly(vinyl chloride) compound and a thermotropic liquid crystalline copolyester: Mechanical properties of squeezed flow films

Abstract: The mechanical properties of squeezed flow films were measured on blends of a chlorinated poly(viny1 chloride) (CPVC) compound and a thermotropic liquid crystalline copolyester of p-hydroxybenzoic acid/poly(ethylene terephthalatel (60/40), hereafter referred to as LCC. CPVC is immiscible with LCC. The most serious and unique problem of liquid crystalline polymers is their tendency to fibrillate when fabricated into films and injection molded parts, primarily because of a high degree of mechanical anisotropy. I… Show more

“…The Al/Ar-TLCP p(ET/HBA) can also interact with wholly Ar-TLCP's with carbonyl-oxygen bonds (58,59,74,75,80,81). An Al/Ar-TLCP copolymer containing p(ET/ HBA) has also been blended with epoxies (821, chlorinated poly(viny1 chloride) (CPVC) (83,84), nylons (63,64), polyetherimide (PEI) (85). polyethersulfone (PES) (5) and polyphenylenesulfide (PPS) (64,86,87).…”
