Blind correction of the EB-leakage in the pixel domain

Abstract: We study the problem of EB-leakage that is associated with incomplete polarized CMB sky. In the blind case that assumes no additional information about the statistical properties and amplitudes of the signal from the missing sky region, we prove that the recycling method gives the unique best estimate of the EB-leakage. Compared to the previous method, this method reduces the uncertainties in the BB power spectrum due to EB-leakage by more than one order of magnitude in the most interesting domain of multipol… Show more

“…We here introduce two independent methods; the first is a relaxation method, and the second provides a more elaborate solution utilizing our recently introduced EB-families. In [29], we provide mathematical proof that method 2 is the best blind correction of the EB-leakage in the pixel-domain, but in this work we still present the results of both methods as a useful cross-check.…”

“…Eliminating B mode caused by EB leakage is one of the most important steps in CMB data processing for CMB B mode measurement. Many literature provide effective methods for its correction on harmonic domain [29,30] or pixel domain [31][32][33]. It is worth noting that the extra B-mode caused by EB leakage will affect the implementation of ILC in polarization maps, because the B-mode caused by EB leakage will participate in the trade-off of B-modes in ILC.…”

“…However, it is important to stress, that component separation and extraction of the primordial CMB polarised signal usually takes place in Q, U domain and only then is converted into E/B components. This conversion is not local and for different masks is accompanied by the presence of different E-to-B leakage terms [5][6][7][8][9].…”
